Leicestershire IS a great destination for Film and TV.

Beacon Hill Country Park, Loughborough

Why Leicestershire?

When thinking of Leicester, one might imagine the slightly run-down town centre – streets of ugly mismatched buildings and messy streets, – not an attractive or ideal place for films to be shot. Leicester is also probably best known for its factory industry, particularly for all the bad press that it receives for exploitative conditions. What Leicester and its surrounding areas are yet to be known for, however, are the gorgeous parks, historic sites, impressive landscapes, stately homes and beautiful bodies of water.

Leicester is also thriving with creative talent and business. From research into local active businesses, I’ve found so many film and video production companies, studios and freelancers operating in and around Leicestershire. Its creative industries also have lots of support from the LCB depot, Leicester’s creative hub, and, for film in particular, the Phoenix theatre and (of course) Film Leicester which seeks to connect and further Leicester’s film industry.

What has been previously filmed here?

Being such an accessible place as well – bang in the middle of the country, a well connected railway line to London, London Stansted and East Midlands Airports, it’s no wonder many filmmakers have therefore chosen Leicester as a destination for their projects. Most notably: The Da Vinci Code, starring Tom Hanks, was filmed at the stunning Belvoir Castle; Rush, starring Chris Hemsworth, was filmed at the Donington Park Race course – located right next to the gorgeous Donington Hall, a mansion house; Loughborough Great Central Station has featured in many films, such as The Hours, starring Meryl Streep; Enigma, produced by Mick Jagger; while the Great Central Railway featured in the Stereophonics music video for ‘Indian Summer’.

So, choose Leicestershire!

With such a unique and diverse array of beautiful filming locations and a strong creative community, why wouldn’t Leicester, Leicestershire and its surrounding areas be a great contender for film and TV production?
